Primary and Secondary Sources

What is a source?  A source is someone or something that gives information about historical events.

 

What is a Primary Source?  A primary source a firsthand account of an event by someone that actually experienced the event.

 

What are some examples of Primary Sources? videos of events, a speech, newspapers, photographs, interviews,  autobiographies, artifacts, diaries, historical maps, letters

 

What is a Secondary Source?  A secondary source is a secondhand account of an event that happens after the event by someone who did not experience the event.

 

What are some examples of Secondary Sources?  reports, biographies, textbooks, encyclopedias
