Head Varsity Football Coach

Manchester High School is located south of Akron, Ohio in Summit County and the district is looking for a Head Varsity Football Coach to take over for a traditionally successful program for the retiring coach. The system is looking for an experienced coach to continue a tradition of a program that has not experienced a losing season in over 40 years.  The successful candidate will need to be available for the community as well as the students as the person who will be responsible for the continued development and advancement of the program through meeting the needs of students as well as working with supportive community parent groups.

The head coach is responsible for the overall development and advancement of a competitive athletic program while demonstrating high moral and ethical standards, positive sportsmanship and the following 5 items: (1) committed to the school community and understands our student dynamics, (2) genuinely and deeply cares about athletes they coach, (3) is educated in the sport they coach and willing to grow in the sport through professional development (3) can effectively communicate their ideas to their athletes, administrators and parents both verbally and in writing. (4) is organized and has a practice plan that they can execute on a daily basis with high school students, and (5) is committed to the values of education for the whole student, the school system and community families while maintaining a positive demeanor and integrity that is expected and required from the school and the OHSAA.


Essential Requirements of the job include:

  • Appropriate license and certifications from ODE for potential employment positions as well as all OHSAA licensure requirements.
  • Must be able to motivate and inspire high school players.
  • Previous coaching experience – a noted track record of success.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude at all times and possess the skills needed to coach young students.
  • Able to display a commitment to the players and program and to follow the school’s athletic code of conduct for coaches.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning and leadership skills required. Must be able to serve as a positive role model for young adults.
  • Other duties as assigned.
