MMS Mathathon for St. Jude's

St. Jude

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Mathathon—Spring 2017

MMS students participated in the annual St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Mathathon program at the end of April and beginning of May.  Students found sponsors and collected donations for St. Jude Children’s Hospital by completing math problems in their grade level Mathathon booklets.

Last year, MMS students raised $3,750.37, and this year, students raised an amazing $10,465.58!  MMS students have raised money through this program for St. Jude since 1986, when MMS students began the St. Jude Mathathon.  Since then, MMS students have raised and donated $66,912.95 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which includes the total students raised this year.  In 2015 MMS students raised $9,699.92 for St. Jude and were recognized by St. Jude as one of the top 100 U.S. schools raising money through the Mathathon program for the hospital.

In this year’s St. Jude Mathathon, our top fundraising students were 5th graders Skyler Wetzel ($600), Heather Sherman ($400), Leah Logan ($250), Victoria Nettle ($185), Isiah Martin ($150), Eddie McNeil ($110), and Zoey Osborne ($100).  Top fundraising students from 6th grade were Canyon Brayon ($100) and Ava Hyatt $100.  The 7th grade top fundraisers include ? Alexis Kepler ($100), Emma King ($170), Matt McNeill ($170), Madelyn Dasho ($130), Gavin Huffman ($467.21), Jeffrey Koncz ($116), Olivia Paljich ($135), Emma Stamperd ($100), Michael Yeater ($102.20), Ayden Carr ($141), Kate Caster ($176), Guy Donatelli ($283), Emily Le ($120), Blake Mong ($190), and Clarissa Wagner-Opatrny ($144).  And, the 8th grade top fundraisers for St. Jude were Katrina Bell ($430), Nathan Harmon ($100), Chloe Hyatt($100) and Tristan Michalak($100).  The St. Jude prizes for raising money included a medal for $25 raised online, a T-shirt for raising $50, a water bottle for raising $100, and many other nice prizes for greater amounts raised for St. Jude.  There were many students that earned prizes for their fundraising efforts, but some students even declined the prizes and donated them back to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Thank you MMS students for working so hard to raise money for such a great cause!  Also, thank you to the MMS math teachers (Mrs. Angela Demrovsky, Mrs. Michelle Lyons, Mr. Fred Johnson, Mrs. Danielle Schnyders, Mrs. Lori Sewell, Mrs. Darlene Hogan, Mr. Mike Hernandez, Mrs. Nancy Hyatt, Mrs. Anne Tucker, Ms. Ashley Nowak, and Mrs. Sheila Sedlock) for organizing and completing the St. Jude Mathathon with students.
